From Brandeis to Kagan: Jewish Justices on the U.S. Supreme Court
Thursday, February 11th ~ 5:30 pm
On June 1, 1916, Louis Brandeis was confirmed as the first Jewish Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.  Since that time, there has been seven subsequent Jewish Justices on the Court, each placing their thumbprint on the fabric of the Constitution  and this nation in his or her way.  Who were they?  How were they selected?  Were there obstacles to their confirmation?  And what were their contributions?
Many are household names like Brandeis and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, but did you know that Justice Felix Frankfurter was an ardent Zionist or that Justice Benjamin Cardozo, an avowed opponent of Hitler, was distressed when a magistrate Judge in NYC dismissed charges against five Jewish dissidents who stormed the German luxury liner “Bremen”?
The American Jewish History and the Other Side of the Story seminar continues on February 11, 2021 at 5:30 pm  with “From Brandeis to Kagan.”  Nashville Attorney Steve Lefkovitz will bring his homespun account of the eight Jewish Justices who have sat on the Court.
